As a Trust, we wish to express our sadness following the death of HRH, Queen Elizabeth II.

Staff in schools across the Trust will be discussing the events with our pupils and ensuring that they are supported in the coming days and weeks.

The Queen was a person of great faith and we are thankful for the exemplary way in which she devoted herself to a life of service. We pay tribute to her tremendous dedication and commitment and recognise the integrity which permeated her reign, along with her deep sense of duty.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family, and the nation, at this sad and difficult time.

HM Queen Elizabeth II

We are all saddened by the death of Her Majesty the Queen.

As our longest reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II was a symbol of stability and continuity throughout an era of great change for the United Kingdom and the wider Commonwealth.

We celebrate a life dedicated to duty and service, and a woman who won loyalty and respect the world over. St Thomas More will observe the national period of mourning, whilst continuing to support our students, families, and staff.

Congratulations to Year 11 on their GCSE results

David Redfern, Headteacher at St Thomas More, congratulated Year 11 on their results.

He said: “We are celebrating another great set of GCSE results. The Class of 2022 has made exceptional progress and this is down to the hard work and commitment of each and every student, throughout what was not only a difficult year but past couple of years.

“Grades are one thing, but it is what they reflect that matters and these results demonstrate how resilient our students are. We must not underestimate the challenges GCSE students have faced across the country with uncertainty characterising their GCSE experience. The grades our students have achieved, after these turbulent few years, are even more outstanding as a result.

“The students’ grades are the well-deserved consequence of their fantastic work ethic and hard work as well as the teaching, care and support that our STM staff have offered to the children in such challenging times. I could not be prouder of our Class of 2022 and I look forward to seeing them continue to flourish as they progress beyond the school gate to excel in their chosen fields.

“A number of students achieved the very top grades. Students that achieved a vast number of the top grades included: Grace Rogers, Sofia Kamara, Erin Babington, Connie Skitt, Lewis Freeman, Zack Gilman and Milly Foster; all were extremely deserving of these.

“As well as this, a significant number of students also made fantastic progress and achieved extremely well, being awarded grades well above their target grade in many subjects. These included Jasper Clements, Matilda Harratt, Amber Aucott, Jakob McGuinness and Freddie Clarke.

“After what has been an extremely challenging year for all students nationally, we as a community can be extremely proud of the young people in Buxton that have overcome these challenges and not only paved the way for their own success but become beacons of light for the future of our local community. They are truly the embodiment of our motto here at St Thomas More, #BeMore.”

Connie Skitt said: “I’m really happy with my results. Next year I’ll be going to Aquinas to study politics, Spanish and psychology.”

Erin Babington said: “I’m very happy! I got the grades I need to study maths, physics and chemistry next year.”

Freddie Clarke said: “I am so happy with my grades, I’m off to Stockport next year to study theology Sociology and geography.”

Jakob McGuinness said: “I have achieved great results and passed everything. My next steps are to go to Aquinas to study history, theology and 3d design. St Thomas More is the best secondary school and a big thank you to all my teachers.”
